Personally I would like to see an update in the way we do things.
However, if we are to change the associations recommendations, how are we going to bring everybody with us? Just looking at these responses shows quite a wide range of views.
What is it that the Association is trying to achieve?
I worry that in our haste to make ourselves relevant, we will court the fashions of the day, and then be soon out of fashion and irrelevant again. We really need some clarity on this.

The Association is trying to be relevant to the nature of baking now. We are very aware that some of our members can still remember rationing whereas for others this is something they studied at school.
The clarity we are trying to achieve is to uncover underlying principles.
For me, that would be the principle of doing your best with the ingredients to hand to create the cake that most matches your idea of what a cake should be like. It also means matching the expectations of the people you will be sharing this cake with. If your friends and family like your baking as it is, then you don't need to change it.
